Mini Vaca

Last week I took a mini getaway with my mom and my sister - We did something totally out of the ordinary and pretty cool !

My grandmother; Nonna turned 85 years old on February 25th - I've written about her in the past - She is a holocaust survivor, Mother of 4 and Grandmother to 6 - Her life story is amazing

This past fall she decided to undergo major surgery; basically reconstruction of her entire spine - She has lived in pain for decades and as doctors now believe that she had broken her back while in the war it obviously never healed properly - Years of letting it go, and further injury had brought her to surgery - She underwent seven surgeries in one day - she has an incesion from her kneck to the top of her butt - and two others on her side - they cut inches out of her spine and replaced parts with a steal rod - the chances of her walking again after such surgery was 50% - Back in October a week after surgery - she was sure she would never walk again - In December after a month in rehab she is mobile - with the help of a walker - She must wear a brace for the rest of her life.

My mom suggested that we visit her - because she will not be able to travel like she used to - Instead of just a regular visit - how about a "surprise" visit - I got into planning mode; and put this trip together in no time ! We flew into Orlando on Wednesday the 24th - rented a car - got a hotel - drove to Cocoa Beach in the morning on the 25th - Rang her doorbell at 10am
She had no idea we were coming

We gave her "the shock of her life" and after about an hour of "happy tears" we enjoyed a full day with her - it was a great day - and leaves me with a smile in my heart to know that after eighty five years we gave her the only surprise she has ever had in her entire life -
